Choir Singing

The choir of St. Peter's Cathedral is a mixed voice choir of 30 singers, who sing the 9.45am NZPB Choral Eucharist each week and a BCP Choral Evensong on the fourth Sunday of each month, plus the seasonal services and Diocesan events. The choir sings a wide repertoire spanning the 16th to 20th centuries, with favourites including music of the Italian Renaissance and the great English Cathedral tradition. The choir is unauditioned but most singers read music.

The Junior Choir, lead by Choral Scholar Larissa Overington-Knight, sings at Family Services and special Children's services at Christmas and Easter. The group ranges in age from 8 to 13 years and is working on the RSCM Voice for Life programme.

The Cathedral Singers choir will be singing a series this year, with the first being Sunday 15 April, Paula Speirs and Alan Simpson, both very experienced choir directors) have kindly offered to run this group.

Rehearsals will be on the four Wednesdays immediately preceding the service (21 March, 28 March, 4 April & 11 April) from 5.30 pm to 7.00 pm in the Choir Vestry.

All singers are welcome regardless of experience. To register interest or for more information please phone the Director of Music.
